Half Life 2 - What They Didn’t Intend for You to See

This is the most thoughtful presentation of a glitch I have ever seen. Daniel Haggard posted an entry into his blog about a Half-Life 2 glitch he stumbled upon. I was really impressed at how he used the glitch to reflect on the scripting of a game, and how a sequence of actions the player is forced to take can build suspense. Lucky for us he chose to find a way around the “forced action”, and found a really cool hole in the script.

The gate where Daniel found a way to trigger a scene that was intended to be blocked from the player’s view.

He uses the glitch as an insight into the game’s narrative and how it sacrifices player freedom. He ends by expressing an interest in how game developers of the future will meet the challenge of preserving a good narrative while adding more player freedom.

I really enjoyed the combination of text, pictures, and videos he used in his entry to present what he had found. I would be glad to see more glitches presented in such a thorough manner.
