A package so strong it kills

Well, this is a weird one. xN1GhTMaR3 on the xDE4DxSiLEnCEx YouTube account uploaded a video showing a strange glitch in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, showing a care package that does a bit more than just caring. And by that I mean, killing people. Check it out:

Cheating doesn’t harm Modern Warfare 2?

In a recent interview conducted by ComputerAndVideoGames.com (or CVG), Infinity Ward community director Robert Bowling had some interesting things to say about the supposedly inconsequential nature of glitches used to cheat in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Basically, Bowling claims that the use of glitches like the “care package glitch” does little damage at all, and that there has been no drop-off of players as a result of these glitches’ presence. I haven’t been playing the game myself, but from everything I’ve ever the use of this and the “javelin glitch” really have had a negative effect on multiplayer.

A stimulus pack of four new glitch videos

The new Stimulus Pack maps just came out for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, so naturally the glitches are starting to roll in. I wasn’t super impressed by any of these, but I figure they’re mentioning for those who are just getting into the new maps now.

The ‘glitch-filled mess’ of Modern Warfare 2

In the latest issue of Game Informer (#204), Matt Bertz wrote an opinion piece called “A Changing Battlefield” regarding the rampant cheating found in games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. From the article:

The old reactionary model of addressing bugs incrementally via patches and title updates no longer suffices for this large a community. When a game is under constant duress like Modern Warfare 2, maybe it’s time to hire a full-time staff trained in policing hackers, stomping out bugs, scrubbing leaderboards to eliminate the cheaters, and refining gameplay balance.

Bouncing around a modern war

This video went up a few days ago, but I’ve been busy playing the absolute joy that is Deadly Premonition so I didn’t get a chance to mention it.

And it’s definitely worth a mention; madmanmcclinton found what he is calling the “first real bounce” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, something which we haven’t seen since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Check out the video below:

Man your horses! The javelin glitch is back

It looks the “javelin glitch” is back… or at least one form of it. The infamous and explosive glitch in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was patched a while ago, but if BigBSt4TZ’s latest video is to be believed then we’ll be seeing it once again. Watch below or check out the video on YouTube.

The [cheater's] dilemma

Over at GameSetWatch, guest writer and psychologist Jamie Madigan wrote an interesting piece about the common dilemma facing players of online multiplayer games; to cheat, or not to cheat?

The basic conceit that players have to consider whether or not to perform exploitative glitches in a multiplayer environment where cheaters gain the upper hand is nothing new, but seeing it expressed in psychological terms is certainly interesting. I could complain about his interchangeable use of “cheater” and “glitcher” in some instances, but I think it’s OK to let this one slide.

But in the meantime, the javelin glitch presented players with an interesting dilemma assuming they weren’t outright bent on griefing: they could either abuse the glitch to boost their own rankings and unlock new perks, or they could abstain and preserve the game’s fair play. Of course, the problem is that if they abstain, someone else may abuse the glitch and dominate the match. The middle ground is when everyone glitches, but the resulting pandemonium isn’t as much fun as fair play.

Remember that elevator glitch I posted a few days ago? Well, madmanmcclinton was able to utilize that technique and bring us a brand new discovery, and the results are pretty cool. Check out the video and see what he was able to accomplish.
